How HSC Works
What We Are
-
HSC is a learning center, not a school.
-
We serve as a hub where independent instructors connect with homeschool families.
-
Our role is to advertise classes, provide facilities and online tools, and manage enrollment so instructors can focus on teaching.
Classes & Instructors
-
Instructors offer a wide range of in-person and live-online classes for grades TK–12.
-
Families can choose from enrichment courses, electives, or core academic subjects.
-
For core classes, instructors post homework and resources using Google Classroom or a similar platform.
Enrollment & Payment
-
Browse our class schedule and select the courses that fit your student’s needs.
-
Families may pay instructors using charter school funds or private funds (for non-charter families).
Parent Portal
-
Parents have access to a secure online portal to view their student’s current list of enrolled classes at any time.
Support for Student Success
- Our unique program is designed to help your student succeed through guidance, support, and accountability.
- Parents always have direct access to each instructor for questions or support, and instructors provide feedback as needed to help students stay on track.
Who Can Attend Classes at HSC
Classes are open to homeschool students in grades TK–12. Families may choose a mix of enrichment, elective, and core academic courses that best fit their student’s needs.
Student Records
HSC does not maintain student records. Parents are responsible for keeping official transcripts and deciding how to file with their state, which determines who holds the records. See our Filing Options page for details.
Filing with Your State
After deciding to homeschool, it’s important to understand how to notify your state about your child’s educational status. There are three common options:
-
Charter Schools
-
Private School Satellite Program (PSP)
-
Private School Affidavit (PSA)
For more details and guidance, see our Filing Options page.
The Homeschool Legal Defense Association (“HSLDA”) is a great resource for homeschooling families. HSLDA passionately advocates for the freedom to homeschool and offers support for every stage of your homeschool journey. With 80,000 member families, Home School Legal Defense Association is the nation’s largest, most trusted homeschool advocacy organization. They’re here to advance and protect our freedom to homeschool. HSLDA’S: “Homeschooling by State Laws“
Choosing the Right Classes
Parents know their student best. We encourage families to read class descriptions carefully and reach out to instructors directly with any questions they might have.
The grade chart on our Homepage (scroll down) shows suggested core courses by grade level, and are flexible for individual needs and learning styles. Students don’t have to strictly follow these tracks, but in doing so, helps to minimize scheduling conflicts. In addition, there is a vast variety of engaging electives to choose from once on the schedule page.
Classes often serve a range of grade levels (e.g., 4–6th).
Contact the instructor (via “Class Details” from the Class Schedule page) if your student is above or below the posted grade range, and if you have questions regarding to student readiness.

Homework and Assignments
For core academic classes, instructors typically assign homework and post it on Google Classroom or a similar platform inside the HSC Student Portal. Enrichment classes may or may not include outside work. Weekly assignments guide student work, and students can contact instructors throughout the week for inquiries.
Parents or caretakers are responsible for ensuring students complete assignments between classes. Younger students may need more hands-on support, but with dedication, both students and parents will see the rewards. Our ultimate goal? Helping your child become an independent learner.
A-G Approved Courses
Several HSC instructors offer courses that are UC A-G approved, which meet the subject requirements for UC and CSU admissions. Approved courses currently include subjects such as English, Math, Science, and History/Social Science, though availability may vary by semester.
Families should check the course description, contact the instructor directly for confirmation, or confirm with their charter school, as each has its own approval process for A-G credit. Not all electives or enrichment classes are UC A-G approved, so please check before enrolling if your goal is UC/CSU eligibility.
For more details on UC A-G requirements, please refer to your charter school. If you are not with a charter and part of Keystone Academy PSP, please reach out to your advisor at Keystone.

You’re Doing Something Wonderful For Your Family!
Choosing to homeschool and seek enrichment opportunities takes dedication, but the rewards are worth it. Research consistently shows that homeschooled students often score higher than average on standardized tests, demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, and tend to perform well in college and beyond. Homeschooling also provides the flexibility to tailor learning to your student’s strengths, nurture their creativity, and build stronger family relationships.
By homeschooling, you’re giving your student the gift of a personalized education and the opportunity to grow in a supportive environment. It’s not always easy, but it is profoundly meaningful—and the results prove it. The commitment you’ve made is something to be proud of, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
